In Memory of Jimmy McCabe

Dear PYH Community,

It is with our deepest regret that we inform you of the passing of Jimmy McCabe, longtime PYH coach, friend, supporter and former board member.

Having started coaching in our program approximately 40 years ago - in between, taking some time off to raise a family including his son, Patrick, who also serves as a PYH assistant coach - he most recently coached our Peewee A team this past season and there truly wasn’t a better coach we could ask for. His quiet and steady demeanor was a welcome sight this day and age and he only cared to see the kids get better - win, lose or draw. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a coach with as kind a heart and who cared to see the kids reach their maximum potential as much as Jimmy.

As we mourn his loss, we ask that you keep Coach Patrick, Jimmy’s wife Sheila and the rest of his family in your thoughts and prayers. He will truly be missed, including by many in our program.

For those interested in paying their respects to Jimmy, his wake is Thursday from 4-8p at Gormley Funeral Home in West Roxbury and his funeral is Friday at 10a at Holy Name Church in West Roxbury.

Lastly, recognizing how Jimmy was a beloved member of our program and cared so much about the program, we are looking to get as many PYH players as possible to participate in a “stick salute” outside Holy Name during his funeral procession on Friday morning. All the kids need is a stick and their Parkway jersey (any jersey from Learn To Skate through Parkway travel works great!). There will be juice, waters and Muchkins for the kids while we await the procession. If available, please sign your player up at:

This will let us know how many kids to expect. Thank you in advance for showing everyone how great the Parkway Youth Hockey community is and for honoring one of our longest-tenured members.
